Helping At Home

Even if you do not speak French at home, there are strategies and activities that you can employ in order to help your student learn and succeed.  If the student receives support in the following areas, regardless of the language they receive the support in, they will be able to transfer the skills from one language to another.  Therefore, if you provide the student with help in the following areas in English, they will be able to utilize these skills in their French language learning:

Help the child become a great communication

Help the child become an imaginative and analytical thinker

Help the child become a thoughtful consumer of information

Help the child learn how to learn

Help the child become a lifelong learner

You can also help by pointing out French language when you see it in the community, and by being positive about French and French learning.  A positive attitude and a willingness to help the student seek out the answers goes a long way in providing the student with the confidence they need to overcome any challenges they encounter.  Your student’s teacher is always here to help as well.
